Sports & Lifestyle

Energy when it counts

  • What is Glucose and why do we need it?

Maintaining optimal energy levels is crucial for peak performance. While many athletes rely on sports drinks or energy gels to refuel during intense workouts, glucose tablets offer a surprising and effective alternative.

Glucose is a form of simple sugar found in many fruits, nuts and vegetables. It is also the body’s number one source of energy. When we eat, the body transforms carbohydrates into glucose before it reaches the bloodstream.

As we exercise, glucose is absorbed by the muscles via the blood steam as an energy source. If there is not enough glucose or blood sugar the body usually doesn’t have enough energy to function properly. This is when we can feel tired and fatigued.

  • Is there an age limit on Lift Activ Energy Boost?

Lift Active Energy Boost is not suitable for children under 16 years old.

Glucose

The body's top choice for quick energy - facts and tips

  • Why do we need Glucose Supplements?

Using glucose tablets or glucose drinks is a great way to manage your blood sugar quickly. This simple sugar is the key to cellular energy production, in which glucose and oxygen are converted into energy, carbon dioxide and water. Normally we get glucose by digesting carbohydrates, but this can take hours before the glucose enters the bloodstream. Choosing the right glucose source is important if you need to raise your blood sugar quickly.

  • Are Glucose tablets addictive?

High amounts of sugar can be addictive in the long run because they promote an increase in dopamine levels. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter, involved in many mechanisms within our body. Excessive amounts of sugar can lead to an increase of dopamine level. As such, the Brain Reward System in the prefrontal cortex detects these high levels of dopamine and translate it into a
pleasing feeling, bringing to continuous request for more sugar, making you dependent on it.

  • Will glucose tablets help a hangover?

Maybe, YES. During a hangover, your liver is busy metabolizing alcohol, so it would not be able to produce glucose from the carbohydrates stored in your body. Taking glucose tablets could help provide energy and bring your blood levels back to normal.

  • Can I overdose on Lift Glucose Tablets?

No. Excessive sugar intake cannot lead to an overdose, it can lead to several undesirable effects: tiredness, hyperactivity, difficulty in concentrating and being hungry between meals.

Low Sugar Management

Fast and effective relief for people with low blood sugar

  • Should I test my blood glucose before taking Lift if I have incidents of low blood sugar?

If you regularly have low blood sugar levels and you have regular meals, it is always best to check your blood glucose before taking Lift to confirm that your blood glucose is low and that you need the extra carbohydrates.

  • What is Hypoglycaemia Management?

Hypoglycaemia (also spelt hypoglycemia), or a "Hypo" is a medical condition characterised by low blood sugar. This occurs when the level of glucose, the body's main source of energy we typically get from food and drinks, in your blood drops below normal.

The human body runs on glucose, a type of sugar found in many of the foods you consume. It is partly responsible for that spurt of energy you get during physical workouts and the more active you are, the more energy you burn.

A healthy person’s glucose level typically ranges between
    4 – 5.9mmol/L before eating
    .

However, the optimal blood glucose ratio often varies between individuals. The symptoms of hypoglycaemia occur in many people when blood sugar levels are below 4 mmol/L. As a result of differences in our physiology, this number differs from person to person. If this level goes below 4mmol/L you should take immediate action to bring it back up to avoid the potentially harmful symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia).

Although hypoglycaemia is caused by a drop in your blood glucose levels, there are several reasons why this may happen. The most common of these is a side effect of insulin or other types of medicines used to treat diabetes.

The symptoms of hypoglycaemia typically come on quickly and may range from mild to moderate to severe, depending on how low your blood glucose level gets.

  • What are the symptoms of a Hypo?

    Symptoms can include:

    • Insatiable hunger
    • Blurred vision
    • Headaches & feeling light-headed.
    • Pale, cold, or clammy skin
    • Confusion or disorientation
    • Feeling weak, sleepy, or tired
  • How to treat a Hypo?

For those managing diabetes, Lift Juice Shots can be used as an immediate treatment for hypoglycaemia and to help prevent hypos.

To treat hypoglycaemia, drink one 60ml shot. Each shot contains 15g of glucose - perfect during a hypo. It’s recommended that you take 15g of glucose-based carbohydrates and wait 15 minutes before retesting your blood glucose levels. Alternatively Lift Chewable tablets are also available as a great hypo treatment. Each of these tabs contain 3.7g of glucose.
